Headcanon time! :D

Hello! I was just browsing your Danny Phantom posts (specifically /post/119671315563) and I noticed you had a tag wondering how ectoplasm might be replenished. I have a headcanon I thought I’d share! 😀 My headcanon is that ectoplasm is slightly radioactive, but not because of degeneration into another element. I thought that ectoplasm could be radioactive because it’s making more ectoplasm through some crazy chemical reaction. It would get the needed atoms/molecules from what ever it’s in contact with, and the chemical reactions would arrange the atoms/molecules however would be needed. Like if it’s in contact with air, for example, the amount of air would steadily decrease, and the amount of ectoplasm would increase. It would happen slowly, though. I did think that charged ectoplasm might absorb things and convert them faster than normal ectoplasm. The atoms that the ectoplasm didn’t use would be discharged as radioactivity.

In regard to a halfa like Danny, Dani, or Vlad, I thought the food they eat and the air they breathe might be converted into ectoplasm to replenish their internal supply. (As if Danny didn’t need any more angst…now he could be a walking nuclear power plant, setting of Geiger counters….) As for how the Fentons and Danny’s friends wouldn’t really be affected by the radioactivity, I haven’t figured that out just yet, but I think ectoplasm would behave differently when fused with a human like Danny and Vlad. Maybe their bodies absorb all the atoms…I really don’t know that part yet!

And for some crazy reason, I thought that glass might be one of the few things that ectoplasm can’t react very well with, since the Fentons keep all/most (it’s been a while since I’ve watched DP!) of their ectoplasm contained in what looks to be glass of some kind. In regard to the metal for their weapons, maybe they coated them in some kind of ectoplasm proof chemical.

Ooooh now this I liiike. Because this could very well lead to a grey goo scenario if too much ectoplasm got into the human world. Uh, green goo. It also means anything in contact with it would become irradiated and corroded. Which doesn’t bode well for anything that gets overshadowed. That might explain the kids in doctor’s disorders, actually. That’s gonna be some really clean glass.

So no, Tucker. You aren’t going to grow a third arm. You’re just going to get all over acid burns and a basal skin cell carcinoma in twenty years.

scrollingdown Filed under Danny phantom ectobiology i actually headcanon tho that ectoplasm is chemically inert and if it’s radioactive it’s mainly in the sense that it glows on visible wavelengths or that it’s alpha radiation not very penetrative i mean the Fentons keep trying to COOK with it they cover people with it all the time I think if they didn’t think it was biologically inactive they would be a lot more careful of course there’s a lot of signs that it isn’t quite but they haven’t really seen them incidentally I also headcanon ectoplasm as having antibacterial properties it would make a great preservative if they could just get it approved at the FDA I still really really love this idea tho the gz CONSUMING the human world burp submission

(like how if ectoplasm was biologically inert, the portal accident would have flat-out killed Danny instead of the whole half-ghost thing)
