in basically any sort of horror story, ghosts are more active at night so whats to say Danny isnt as well??? 

We know he isnt getting mich sleep but what if its due to the fact that the ghost part of him is buzzing with energy all night and not because the box ghost is dicking around on the other side of Amity? Because of this, his ghost half is more dominant during the day. Danny has to “call” his powers foward, which is basically waking a part of him back up. And since ghosts are pure energy, its harder for his human half to take control once the sun goes down. No wonder the poor kid cant get any sleep.

its canon that ghosts interrupt his school day and pull him out of classes but why? if we follow the theory that ghosts have more energy at night, shouldnt the ghost activity be almost non existent during the day?

the only reason it isnt is because the ghosts have learned how to spread their energy. they only use the three basics: flight, intangibility and invisibility unless they run into danny (or another ghost picking a fight). thats when they start using more of their powers. due to the fact they are only using the basics, they are letting the energy out while still keeping a ton of it stored. 

danny, on the other hand, uses his powers for every little thing. dash beat him up? time to shoot a little ectoray up his ass. late to class? phase through walls to get there faster. the kid doesnt think of the energy he is wasting. and then night comes, still danny is using his powers for stupid stuff and since ghosts are more active at night, he burns through his energy quicker. then when its time to relax, his body is working overtime to replenish the energy he lost. and since ghosts are pure energy, the process makes it hard to sleep. then the cycle repeats.

while human, the ectoplasmic energy is dormant, due to the fact that all that energy could most likely kill him if it turned on full blast in his human form. sure, he calls it forward for stupid things and it gives him a burst of energy. it turns into an automatic defense, kinda like coffee. danny starts dozing off?  he subconsciously lets a part of him turn intangible, or invisible, to give him a jolt strong enough to wake him back up.

his ghost sense is also energy. it sure as hell wakes him up due to that and the fact its basically tiny ice particles coming from his lungs. just a tiny pick me up.
