Fucking Master Monk Guan.
The whole reason Chase Young sold his fucking soul was so that he could be immortal and eternally youthful. Hence why he’s been alive for the past 1500 years.
So how the fuck has Guan survived for so long? Also, in the alternate timeline where Chase is good, Guan is the one who sells his soul and becomes evil. BUT CHASE IS STILL ALIVE AND YOUNG 1500 YEARS LATER. Literally what is the point of anybody selling their soul if they’re all just gonna live for ever?
Also, the whole reason Guan sells Dojo out to Chase is so he can get his Spear of Guan back, because it’s like his most prized possession. Not only does he end up giving the spear to Omi, but he later gives it to Raimundo too. And we find out he’s got TONS of Spears of Guan copies, so he basically sold Dojo out for nothing.
I don’t know, all in all her seems like a pretty shady character to me and frankly, I don’t trust him.

I’m a big fan of the idea that Guan is actually Heylin, just, you know, still fond of the temple instead of bitter, principled in a similar way to how we see Chase in XS, probably went Heylin because he felt responsible for Chase’s actions.

@dragonnutt pulled out some cool headcanons for Master Monk Guan and the time travel thing, you should go check them!

It is true that, in the alternate timeline, Chase seems to be alive despite being over 1500 years old as well. Looks like being a Grand Master grants you immortality or, at least, extreme longevity.
That basically reduces the Lao Mang Long soup to a power boost and makes me question the purpose of the whole “eternal youth” thing.

This also makes me wonder: if Great Masters are basically immortal, how did Dashi die? We know that, at this point, he surely didn’t die from old age. We also know that he’s not alive and pulling up some à la Toph “I’m gonna hide as a Master so the kids can learn for themselves” shit, cause we actually see his ghost. So he must have been KILLED, and this sets up some cool scenarios for a lot of fics with cool new villains.

About the spear thing: I really disliked such a huge plot-hole, so I made up a headcanon for it:

He could have made replicas from the spear once he got it back, but we see him giving it to Omi, so there must be another explanation:

He gave the nr 384 to Raimundo.

What if the spear he gave Omi was not like the others? What if it was special for him? What if it was the spear nr 1?
What if that spear was a gift from Dashi or from a good friend who later turned out to be a villain?
What if that spear is the only thing, with Dashi gone and Chase as a Heylin, that reminds him of the old times? A memory so important that hundreds of perfectly shaped replicas couldn’t replace it?

When he realized he was throwing away his pride and his Xiaolin ways just to get it back, Guan learned how to let go.
He already lost his old friends, he couldn’t affort to lose his new ones. He couldn’t look Omi in the eyes and see a look of betrayal, all the respect he held for him gone.

He gave the spear to Omi as a reward, sure, but it was also for himself. He needed to finally put up with his past, in order to move forward. He had other spears, and that one was special. But it wasn’t worth his honor.
